Electric school roofs

July 17, 2011

Yesterday’s Kol Ha-ir, Hebrew, not online, p.25: The municipality has begun installing solar energy systems on the roofs of schools. The plan is to install them on the roofs of 50 schools or other public buildings. In the first stage solar panels will be installed on the roofs of four schools, all in the same area around Katamon: Keshet, Denmark, Beit Hinuch and Paula Ben Gurion.

Will the schools benefit or the municipality, or who? Is it a coincidence that the first four are all schools of relatively strong communities (Denmark a bit less so)? Will the program include schools in the Haredi neighborhoods? In the Arab ones? Does it make any difference?

I have no answers to any of these questions. The news item didn’t think to address any of them.
